Reason to believe (Webzine) : M elodic French band from Nantes with strong, sung male vocals. HAYMARKET
remind me of TERMINUS (UK) in both the vocal and musical style. They also have
strong political content in their lyrics that are socially and politically
aware that encapsulates a humanistic approach and feel to their music. Lyrically
they discuss subjects such as 'competition', 'money', 'progress', 'yuppies',
and have a strong anti-G8 anti-globalisation stance. HAYMARKET are something
different to today’s punk scene and are well worth checking out. Really great.

Nikros
(Troudbit Industry) : Prospect and Enslave est la bonne surprise du moment pour
moi. Déjà par son packaging, une boite inhabituelle qui change un peu des
boitiers habituels (oui je sais c'est une phrase de merde). Une fois le cd mis,
on sent vraiment la rage du groupe qui se degage, non pas que ce soit
ultra-bourrin, mais par les airs, le rythme et surtout les paroles qui tout en
evitant les gros clichés habituels du genre sont très
"revolutionnaires" et engagés. Pas de doute Haymarket est un groupe
très politisé, suffit d'observer les nombreuses citations qui jalonnent le
livret, citations de grands theoriciens revolutionnaires (Marx, Bakounine,
Mao...) pour s'en persuader si les paroles n'ont pas suffit. Haymarket
entretient à travers cet album un lien très etroit avec les grands mouvements
anti-mondialistes, de par les themes abordés dans les chansons qui en sont
essentielement inspirés, ou même plus directement en affichant des photos des
manifestations anti-G8. En écoutant l'album on a l'impression de se retrouver
au coeur des evenements, pret à balancer des pavés sur les poulets tout en
tenant par la main son voisin en chantant des chansons autour du feu... heuu...
Bref on s'amuse bien ! Voila, un pti groupe assez plaisant pour moi, un cd qui
devient rapidement une drogue voir même pire qui sait !
React (Paris) : HAYMARKET (famous place in Chicago, theatre of confrontation between
workers and cops in 1886 during a demonstration to obtain 8 hour working)
exists since september 2002 and the line up is as follow : Mathieu (guitar,
singer), Patsy (drums, singer), Trakpi (guitar) et Fred (bass). All of them
used to play in bands before but, they stayed unknow exept for Mathieu, who
used to play for Toxxic TV and did two records with them. They play from
punk-rock to hardcore but melodic, and some people say that they remind them
Dead Kennedys. Most of the lyrics are written by Patsy and they criticize the
world (consumerism, capitalism, ...). They had already a CD called
"prospect and enslave"out on CANARD MUSIC.
Leon on
me (Fanzine-label de Thouars) : Nouvelle production du label nantais, ces
Haymarket regroupent d’anciens Toxxic TV, me semble-t’il. Il s’agit d’un
hardcore-punk mid-tempo, avec chant en anglais et français dont les intonations
me rappelent souvent Jello Biaffra. La comparaison peut aussi tenir concernant
les textes, tous politisés, mêmes si plutôt axés sur le constat que sur la
dénonciation et la mise à mal des travers de notre chère société (mais la
limite entre constat et dénonciation peut être mince, me direz-vous...). Tout
ça a aussi un petit côté Informers, et ça n’est pas pour me déplaire. La
présentation avec boitier plastique noir est originale, et le prix bas (6
euros) devrait finir de vous décider à découvrir ce groupe (et non, je n’ai pas
fais d’études de commerce pour pondre ce genre de chronique...).
Profane Existence (U. Suck A.) : 100% anarchist punk-hc with Matthieu (ex-singer-guitar-player of
Toxxic TV). This is a 12 tracks (including a cover of Rites of Spring), with a
raw and angry sound that is like an updated Dead Kennedys. Includes English
translations for the lyrics.
International punk/hardcore (France)
This band features ex-members of TOXXIC TV and it shows. The label advertises
this as "libertarian punk-Hc ala DEAD KENNEDYS". I believe HAYMARKET
could be described as a mix between those two bands. They have their feet deep
into punk-hardcore but play really varied music, kinda like TOXXIC TV did, but
more powerful, and with vocals that can bring Jello Biafra to mind at times. The
sound quality is good, the layout is great (really sarcastic and ironical), and
the lyrics are brilliant, attacking the main evil of this modern world ;
"the free market". All in all, some songs are excellent, while others
are too slow or too technical for my tastes. I believe they should either play
fast, or slow, but not in between. ;) The overall Cd leaves me with mixed
feelings, but this band has a big potential so keep an eye out for them. (Y.B.)
STNT
Punk rock en provenance de Nantes qui doit autant à la vague américaine du
début des années 80 (X, Circle Jerks, Dead Kennedys…) qu’au mouvement alterno
français. Chant en français et en anglais plutôt bien vu qui peut faire penser
parfois à Jello Biafra…Pas mal du tout dans le genre ! (Greg)
